Canada Loses 15,000 Jobs: Collectors Mobilize Troops

Postby Raymond » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:31:54 PM

THE CANADIAN PRESS
November 25, 2008
TORONTO - The Canadian auto industry will lose a staggering 15,000 jobs by the end of 2009 as a "maelstrom" of change sweeps through the sector, according to an economist with the Conference Board of Canada.

Collection agencies have hired a new contingent of employees especially trained to take care of any slow paying workers.

Calling all Jolly Rogers: Total Credit Recovery Needs You!

Postby Raymond » Sun Nov 23, 2008 07:09:59 AM

Well Montgomery...... terrorism, intimidation, brutality, aggression, extortion, robbery, thuggery, chicanery, immorality...... it was a no brainer to see what a natural fit and fine addition these guys would make to any collection agency office.

In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I thought I recognized this expat manning the phones over at Total Credit Recovery. And yes, he makes house calls as well as boat calls.

This guy gets my vote for Mark Silverthorn's 1500 "most influential" people in Canadian Collections.

In fact, if you think I'm exaggerating, below are more fine candidates that would make a great contribution to anyone's top list of "most creative" collection agents.

Calling all Jolly Rogers: Total Credit Recovery Needs You!

Wanted: Somali pirates.

Collection agencies have been quick to notice how much loot Somali pirates have been able to carry off with little fear of retribution.

An uneducated, hostile, onerous, young Somali with no morals can take in over $75,000 for a 2 week excursion. Publicity of this and the fact that governments feel there is little to do they can stop [It hasn't dawned on them to shoot back yet] the ongoing financial nazis of the high seas has created a real dilemma for owners of local collection agencies like Total Credit Recovery and Gobal Collections. To their dismay, they're finding out many Somali pirates are taking home far in excess of what their collectors are.

In the quandry over how to cash in on all the overseas action, collection owners find they have basically 2 options

Should they contract out their own inhouse collection henchmenn to serve on Somali ships on "tours of duty" and expand operations to the Gulf Of Aden where the collections act is written by who have the biggest RPG?

OR

Should they try to lure the Somali pirates from their current stomping grounds and let them expand their operations into Canada by working the phones in their offices?

Stay tuned, negotiations are underway. Interim reports suggest the Somalis are willing to give up their ships so long as they can keep their RPG's and half the loot they extort, er I mean, recover.

The looming Christmas season combined with huge rounds of anticipated layoffs and throngs of people in collections have certainly made collection owners cognizant of the increased revenue opportunities.

Franniee2003, I'm not sure why you are going to court on Jan.19, or why you need to pay anyone $200.00.

There's only 4 records of anyone being sued by St John's Music Store in Winnipeg from 1991 to 2004 and I don't see any scheduled hearing for the store on Jan. 19, 2009 in Winnepeg Small Claims Court, either morning or afternoon sittings.

And perhaps 'coffeechris', its those very pay freezes and massive lay offs that have people unable to pay their bills and debts as they had been prior to these things happening to them, and despite the bullying and harrassment from collection agents, they are unable to meet the unreasonable demands and timelines placed upon them by these calls and letters.

Or are you rubbing your hands together cackling because you know that as soon as the auto industry goes into collapse you'll be extra busy bullying laid off workers to 'pay their bills' when they no longer have an income outside of Employment Insurance? It's not like one's savings and mutual funds and RSPs have any real value anymore, at least not until 2010.

Collection agencies might be veiwing these tough economic times with glee, but you can't get blood from a stone no matter how hard you try to squeeze. That's why there are places like this, to help people understand the laws surrounding debt and collection in their provinces and help them deal with their situation as they try to clear up their debt with limited means to do so.

Of course, 'people' like you see a site like this as a gathering of deadbeats unwilling to pay legitimate debts, which just goes to show the general lack of common sense and intelligence required to do the job.

(ps: Learn to spell properly. It's 'you're', not 'your', 'whether', not

'wether', 'counterparts', not 'counter parts', 'bankruptcy', not 'banko' (whatever you mean by banko), and the final sentence should end with a question mark -?- not a period. If you want to get some kind of a point across, correct spelling and grammar use really helps.)

There are a lot of individuals that go through hard times, and if the stock market is any indication of that, then there are more hard times to come. If you have paid your bill and you can show proof then the agency should not be calling you any longer if they are then there are many different ways to handle that which I am sure this site refers to. As far a debt managment is concerned in my own opion that is not the best option. Do some research on that prior to enrolling. There are other options that are available and work out better long term for you.

If we continue in Canada to let debt build up we will end up in the financial mess that our counter parts to the south are in. Then wether your a collector or a doctor, you will feel the crunch. Just look how many companies right now in Canada are on pay freezes, in the process of filing banko, mass lay off's. Is that really where we want to end up.
