• The collection agent calls up and starts screaming at my 11 year old girl. I don't care who you are. YOu just don't do that. My 11 year old daughter doesn't know my financial affairs, nor is it her responsibility to comment about them. I will be complaining about D&A collection all over the place. Their behaviour is completely unacceptable.

In 2006, the Primus Canada telephone company never send me a phone bill and Primus waited untill year 2009, they suddently sent my name to these DA Collectors. Those DA collectors are assholes. All they can do is just to harrass you over the phone with no needs to find the reasons why and or allow you to explain. All they do are: where and when I pay for them. Dare anyone of them to contact direct in person. F...ing animals and the robots.

I am having the same problem with D & A. I had a membership with a gym that I cancelled after a year contract back in 2005. During that time I had a personal trainer with the gym. You had to pay each session you had with that trainer. Now, 6 years later (I went to the gym in 2004) they are saying I own $500 for this personal trainer I had. I find it terribly odd since I had never heard anything about this.... As a matter of fact, this particular gym, Extreme Fitness, continued to take payments out of my account even after my membership contract was done. Even after I sent them notification in writing that I no longer wanted this gym membership they continued to take payments out, not too mention the fact that they renewed my contract without any consent. It eventually got to the point where I had to close that bank account. I don't understand how they can give your supposed debt to a collection agency when you have never been notified on the debt before? I am guessing that this agency is trying to push it as the statute of limitations is almost up but I refuse to pay a debt that I have never been given any indication of having. I think this agency needs some serious reprimands as it is trying to collect on debt which people have never been given any indication of. It seems awfully like a scam to me... any information on where I can make complaints would be good. I've already complained to the consumer protection agency. Also, I've noticed that this particular agency cannot give me any specifics about this debt. All it can give me is just general information. They can't even seem to substantiate this claim. I received a letter after I hung up on them multiple times after talking to them and not receiving much information except for calls where I'm being told that the matter is serious and escalating and that I need to pay it. The letter did not have a date or any reasoning. Just an amount and company it was from. Then it just gave a tear off strip with options to pay the amount.

I got a letter from these people. No phone calls though. Letter says I owe ICS almost $1000 for some locksmith course.

These ICS people have been sending letter for a few months but I assumed it was to try and get me to sign up. I haven't signed up for this course so I don't know why I keep getting these letters, but this is the first on a collection agency! I am new to Canada and don't even have credit yet. I called both these companies and I am getting no where. A friend says file a consumer complaint with Alberta. Other than that I have no idea what to do.

SO - I did a course with ICS, and found out half way through that it sucked. I contacted them and said I wanted to buy it out and cancel. I heard nothing more until I got a crappy phone call from D&A. That was a bit over a year ago. I told them I wouldn't deal with them and that if I owed anything I'd work with the original lender.
When I went back to ICS they said they didn't have any more info and I'd have to contact D&A.
Every interaction I've had with them has been rude and aggressive. They call my house four and five times a day, leave four or five messages a week - all recorded. Finally, I sent a cease and desist letter last week - registered - stating that all contact to me should be done through email and I gave them the address. I also pointed out I'd got nothing from them in writing on this debt and that I acknowledge no indebtedness to them.
They received, and signed for, my letter last Thursday at 9.16am. Since then I've had four phone calls and three voicemails. I emailed their 'compliance' officer yesterday telling her that they were in violation of the act since I had provided them an alternative method of contacting me. I got a read receipt - then another phone call with their voicemail to call them this afternoon.
SO - what do I do now? They've ignored my cease and desist - to whom do I take that complaint?
Thanks, all!!

Hi, i have been having trouble with D&A for about a month and a half now... they won't let me make any payment plans...only the money in full, when i say i don't have that kind of lump sum.. she starts telling me to borrow it from my parents.. i keep telling her they don't have that kind of money to lend me.. she goes nuts and start yelling at me... telling me it's either that or they are going to sue me.. also she kept telling me places to call to try to get loans and stuff, and when i do what she wants and get declined (which of course i am.. cause i have bad credit with them so i am gonna have bad credit!) she says..oh i figured that you would..(get declined for loans) so basically she makes me waste my time.. and one time i was having problems with my phone and it hung up on her.. i called back the next day to say sorry and she said i hung up on her...i was lying about my phone...basically it seems that no matter what i do or say to these people... i am lying..i just don't see why they keep phoneing... if i already told them i don't have the lump sum and there not offering payment plans!!

TO WHOM IT CONCERNS ....IF YOU WANT THEM TO STOP CALLING THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEND A LETTER STATING THAT YOU WOULD ONLY LIKE THEM TO CONTACT YOU IN WRITING ...AFTER THE RECEIVE IT , IF THEY CALL YOU BACK AGAIN ,...I DONT THINK SO THEY WILL ...THEN U CAN SUE THEM....

How do you go about filing a complaint in regards to repeat calls to your home when they have the wrong number. Debt control agency has called our home numerous times, some that I was unaware of. I politely called to inform them that they had the wrong number.....I was then yelled at that "How dare I not call back sooner" and proceded to tell me that I was rude etc...very irrate and yelling. I reminded him that he was calling my home and dialing the wrong number and this was the first phone message that I personally had heard. I do have his name and information. I consider his actions harassment. Any suggestions??

hey none given,
i appreciate your input.
I like your cash only policy. If you don't have the cash, you don't buy it.. that will keep you out of trouble everytime.

Check your local laws. In Ontario there can be no discussion with anyone else unless they are a guarantor and a maximum of three calls in seven days.
The info in Ontario is available on the web. Look up e-laws and search for "collection agency" go to the section marked prohibited practices.

The simplest way I've found to totally avoid this sort of problem is to pay all my bills in full and on time. If I'm not going to be able to do this I don't buy it.

I do have one more question how many times in a day are these people allowed to call your house and leave messages threatening legal action. Are they allowed to threaten legal action, because they called last week and said that this was the last call before they take legal action and then they keep calling now still threatening legal action. I know its a scare tactic but are they allowed to do that?
On Jul 30, 2008, Monty Loree Said:
hey meagan,
IMO.. collection agencies should not be disclosing your personal information to anybody else. http://www.privcom.gc.ca .. as per the PIPEDA..

You can complain about that to the Privacy Commission.

Also.. you need to get verification that these collection agents are actually licensed in your province. Before you talk to them.

oh yeah then he said to ask someone to take out a loan or ask their credit cards for more money so that i can borrow off of them and then pay whoever lent the money to me....i told him i don't have any one to do that for me....when my dad told him to stop calling and the guy was telling my dad about my credit score the guy also denied that he never asked me to ask family for help.....when he clearly did
On Jul 30, 2008, Meagan Said:
Okay maybe someone can help me i don't know where to find a number that offers legal advice on whether or not the collector is breaking the law, they call my parents house everyday and leave msgs, my dad has asked him to stop calling the house, doesn't listen, started talkin about my credit score with my dad(none of his business), when i said my parents can't help me he asked why i said its personal and he said what kind of parents don't want to help there kids out, they just wnat to see them fall flat like that, then when he asked me again why they can't help me, i said its personal then he said if he asked his family for help and they couldn't they would at least give him a reason, so he said i was lying to him and he can't help me anymore, oh the big one i haven't even seen a written letter to state the debt, on my parents answering machine tonight he said he is now taking legal action. When i asked him for the account number and the account name so i could put money into it he wouldn't give it to me until i said how much, he said that i'm going to have a hard time with jobs in the future now because of this and this will greatly affect any job in the future and i will probably not get any position i apply for. Can someone please let me know if he is allowed to say this stuff to me or give me a number to contact someone about this...thank you

I would suggest you should obtain the means to record calls and then once you have recorded the calls, especially the abusive ones, you then find a lawyer to and sue them or send the information on to the govermental misitry responsible for collection agencies.

Well it is good to know that i am not the only one that is having problems with D&A collections and there aggressive tactics.
