The first step you should take is call Canadian tire and find out if the debt is sold or not. When you find out, let me know on here or send me a private message.

This company seems to buy all the Canadian tires debts. They are very difficult to deal with. They can sue and get a judgment against you if they want. I would write a letter of your financial hardship to them. There is only two ways to deal with this debt and one of them is make payments to them and the other way is debt settlement. If you can get your hands on some money; what this company might do is settle this debt in a one time lump payment. Once you write your letter of your financial hardship they will probably come back and tell you they will accept 40% for an example to settle your debt. If they agree to settle your debt; I would get the settlement offer in writing before you hand over your money.

need advice

Postby ritageorge » Wed Feb 18, 2009 09:42:54 AM

hi everyone,
i owe canadian tire 5400,i now a collection agency called contact resources called me saying that they will now collect my debt...

to make a long story short,i was regular on my payments, never missed any till my husband lost his job in oct,2008.well i called CT and let them know and told them that i will be able to pay only half of my monthly payments and if they could accept it.they were totally unaccomadating, but still i made my payments up till dec.

now i think they have sold my account to CRS and they said that my case is with a lawyer and i have to come up with the money 540 per month or pay 4400 in one shot?i mean common how can i do that?when i am barely surviving month to month(with 3 kids) the agent i spoke to said i should borrow from friends or family and do this quickly or when my husband gets a job they can collect it from the employer and he might loose his job again????

what should i do?how should i negotiate with her?can they do what she said? any advice will be greatly appreciated....
