Make More Money - 1A Semi Driver License

Postby montyloree » Sat Aug 20, 2011 02:03:34 PM

Yes... I wrote all of the Class 5-1A written tests which was mandatory to get the 1A learners...

After I wrote and passed all of the written tests I was able to take training for the Class 1A... after I passed the 1A, I am allowed to operate the other classes...

Yes, but it says: To apply for a Class 1 driver’s licence you must:

have a Class 5, 4, 3 or 2 driver’s licence; be a minimum age of 18 and not a novice driver. Do you already have those classes of licences?

My goodness, you do like discussing things.. don't you...

You were on the wrong page there my friend:

http://www.sgi.sk.ca/sgi_pub/drivers_licences/classifications/class_1.htm

After obtaining your Class 1 driver’s licence, you can operate vehicles in the following licence classes:

Class 2 – Buses with a seating capacity exceeding 24 passengers
Class 3 – Trucks with more than 2 axles
Class 4 – Taxis, ambulances and buses with a seating capacity of 16 to 24 passengers
Class 5 – Cars, vans and 2-axle trucks

Licence classes have to be the same in all the provinces because of classified vehicles travelling between them. You clearly stated, "Now I can drive a greyhound tour bus with a 1a Licence." You couldn't possibly think a tractor trailer licence would allow you to drive a tour bus,
if you really do have a tractor trailer licence. Without experience, you'll only be able to get on with a long distance over the border carrier, unless you know someone in the industry.

I take it one of the iron clad rules on the forum is to never criticize a collection agent, even a convicted one. Is that true? Why not just come out and say it?

I hate to disagree...
I Saskatchewan, a 1A license can operate Class 2-7....

2A are Charter buses or city buses
3A are gravel trucks etc
4 are paratransit

I have my 'S' endorsement which allows me to operate a school bus...
The only thing I can't operate is a motorcycle...

DanielBl... I'm not sure where you got your information ... but when you have your 1A, you can drive all of the other classes... I can show you the manual if you want

I've got a tractor trailer licence too though I don't use it. You may be under some form of misunderstanding - unless you made the recent posts to shunt my criticisms of collection agents off the front of the forum web page. You wouldn't do that, would you?

I don't want to rain on your parade, but, in Saskatchewan, a Class 1A is only good for driving tractor trailers NOT buses. Just as in Ontario, buses with more than 24 passengers require a coach or class 2 licence. And to drive a taxi in Saskatchewan, you need a class 4 licence.

Got It!! - My 1A Semi Driver License

Postby montyloree » Sat Aug 20, 2011 01:19:38 PM

I am happy to say that I got my 1A Semi Truck drivers license....
Now I can drive a Semi Truck, a Grey Hound/Tour Bus, city bus, paratransit, taxi cab etc etc...

There seems to be a great deal of need for help in the transportation industry...

People are desperate for 1A drivers, and especially in the oil patch..

For those who have been laid off and need to retrain... if I can do it, you can do it.

Retraining - 1A Semi Driver License

Postby montyloree » Mon Aug 08, 2011 05:24:40 AM

So... today I start my training to get my 1A semi drivers license.... I actually call myself a tractor trailer equipment operator... :)

It's a two week course and hopefully it will be sponsored by http://www.saskjobs.ca

At my age, I'm starting to retrain so that I can do some hourly work, along with my this internet site...

When people say that it's difficult to retrain in your late 40's, they're not kidding... you're away from work, you're spending thousands, you're old and tired anyways... (it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks)

I have to study air brakes, circle checking the tractor and trailer, and then learning how to shift gears.... i can see why driving a semi would be a little nerve racking
