Just wanted to post my experience with ARC. I owe on a Scotiabank visa, the payment came out from the bank in Dec. I recieved a call shortly after from ARC saying the full amount was due immediately. I told them I wanted to contact the bank first to find out about the money that had come out towards the debt. I recieved a latter from them yesterday, and knowing now I cant pay the bank anymore I called them to make payment arrangements. Yes I called them! Anyways I spoke to a Mr Wong, and he basically gave me a sales pitch about how if I wanted he could reduce the amount and hook me up with a creditor for either a loan or mortgage refinancing to cover the debt. When I told him I wasnt interested in going into more debt and just wanted to pay it off, he became very agitated with me and sarcastic, saying well I guess you know it all, and theres just no talking to you! Once they realize your not going to fall for their tactics they get incredibly condescending and rude! I then tryed to set up the account online, after talking to my bank and making them aware of the itch ect, and they advised it may be wise to consult a lawyer so I dont get scammed. I dont even think this kind of thing is legal actually.I coudnt find them on any list of payees as of yet and will try to find out how to add them. This way I have a clear record of payments with reference numbers for all the payments I do make so they dont come back and say I didnt pay later on. I have also reserached the scam blogs on this company. Its hard to belive Scotiabank is affilaited with a company like this, and I will look into options like having my account transfered to a more reputable credit recovery firm. I will post again when I get more info on setting up accounts and do a bit more research on legal gredit collection practices in my province.
