It could be a slimy scam.
It could be gross incompetence.
It could be a combination of both.

Nothing unusual there, as all collectors are incorrigible and/or pathological liars (as you can see from the budhibbs.com website).

Whichever: Nothing will happen to you because it's all just bluffing on their part; and nothing will happen to them because the laws are not enforced in Canada.

That's why we have things like the "Jackson Method." Seriously.

Sorry, to say this for the 4th time, but people in this country need to stop adopting the victim mentality, expecting the government to come to their aid and enforce every regulation. It ain't gonna happen. They need to be proactive and defend themselves. That's why I repeat Donald F. Trump's admonition to Torontonians last month:

"Get even! When someone screws you, screw them back in spades! I really mean it! You gotta hit people hard!"

I've received numerous calls in one week from this agency, trying to collect a debt that was settled with another agency a few years ago, and insisting they will proceed to collect the money, despite my claim that it's paid. I have called the original agency and the original creditor, and gathered my proof of payment to send to the creditor, so I hope to resolve it that way, but this raises a red flag for me, obviously. In the meantime I've now let D&A know in writing that I will not deal with them until I receive proof that they're operating on behalf of the creditor. The D&A agent has lied at least twice - once to say the original agency was out of business, and also referred twice to a "court number" before admitting that there have been no court proceedings.

It's obviously a legitimate collection agency, but their tactics would seem to be illegal, from what I understand?
