I have been cashing cheques at the same branch made out to my name with my company's name underneath, for the last three years. Today, I was informed that I could no longer cash these cheques (by a teller who has cashed at least ten of these cheques in the past). The two options I was given was: (1) get my employers to reissue new cheques without the business name on it; or (2) open up a commerical account.
Of course to open a commercial account means many more hoops to jump through. I have been a loyal customer to BMO for 20 years. You would think my track record and excellent credit rating would count for something. Apparently not.
