Yeah, what they did was really against the law and they need to get nailed for it (just as with Stephen Tobin vs TCR), but first things first. What are the particulars of your student loan? What province was it taken out in and when, how long did you make payments on it and when did you stop attending classes? What branch of TCR are you dealing with?

Bally, there is soooo much information on here on what you can do. Please read up on it. Monty & Raymond are the experienced ones. But there is a law that was broken (privacy act) & there have been some lawsuits filed against collection agencies about all that good stuff. I think Vivek actually posted one (link)and it was successfull. Please do some research here, and other places. Wayne McCleod also visits here, and he's the VP of TCR in Toronto.

Collection calls at work by TCR

Postby consulttech » Thu Mar 29, 2007 12:00:00 AM

In December I started to get calls from TCR for my provincial student loan that is in default standing.
I started getting calls at home and then at work. I worked with them to try to get a loan to pay off the principal amount of approx. $12000.00. I could not get any loans based on my credit rating and the lady kept on insisting that my credit was good and I should be able to get the loans. She felt that getting a loan at 30% was perfectly all right but i could not afford to pay such high interest. Her concern was to get paid and my concern was that if I take a loan at 30% I can get rid of TCR for student loans but a few months latter they will be after me for collections for the loan that I took to pay them.

So I approached my employer for a loan. They told me that they could lend me $7000.00 which they will deduct from my salary overtime. I forwarded this information to the TCR rep. I was shocked to hear from my employer that a rep from TCR called and first disclosed all the information about my defaulted student loan and then asked the him to pay the full amount of $12,000.00. By telling my company all the details, TCR directly broke the privacy act law.
Once the employer found out about the defaulted loan, he also decided not to lend me the $7000.00 that he agreed on. Then i had no choice but to try for the loan at 30%, but they could only lend me $10,000.00, which TCR turned down.
But the calls continued at work and I could no longer concentrate on my design work. This eventually led me to make a major mistake at work. My employer could have fired me, but when I explained about calls from TCR at work and how they continually bothered me at work. They were sympathetic and gave me a layoff rather than firing me.
I called the provincial office to tell them of this situation. They said there is nothing they can do and suggested that I explain the situation to the manager at TCR by the name of Bernadette Harteri.

So i faxed this information to TCR with attention to there manager but instead of there manager responding back I got contacted by another rep who said that she will help me out.
Her help was by asking for approx. $14,000.00 instead of the previous $12,000.00.
So basically I would like to know what action can be taken against TCR for releasing my personal information to my employer and eventually leading to the loss of my job.
