As someone who works in this industry I get calls all the time from friends saying this collection agency is calling me and making crazy threats. Its a shame that there are so many collection agencies out there that will break the law or instill fear in debtors to get them to pay. To be quite honest, that lawyer cannot, I repeat cannot contact your employer unless he is calling to verify employment or he is calling about a garnishment that is in place already. Collections is not a great business to be in but some of us have to do it. Personally, I find that if you call a debtor up and treat them with dignity and respect that you are more likely to get a positive result. Everyone one day or another finds themselves in a financial crisis, so we collect only the ones we can. If your not working, what good is it for me to call you and harass you. You cant get blood from a stone. The problem is alot of these collection agencies are really some guy/girl sitting alone in his office desperately trying to make money and they dont care what they do or say to get it. Its a shame but I think for the most part in Ontario they are making headways with cleaning up this image.
Anyways, sorry for the long reply. The answer is no and if he does, you have legal grounds against him personally and his agency.
Hope that helps. Remeber not all collection agents/agencies are the same. Its unfortunate that we have so many bad apples.
Good luck and please excuse my sp.
