Dishonest Lenders ... Shop around, ask friends, don't assume anything!

Hi, this isn't a question as much as a warning to potential borrowers. If you have bad or okay credit and you are needing a car loan, you really need to know the facts about your credit before you go car shopping. I have not great credit, FICO 650, so I went and got a car loan through Scotia Dealer Advantage. The financing manager at a dealership told me that this is the best company for my "tarnished" credit situation. So I bought a car and paid a whopping 19% interest, I was told "you're credit is rough, getting this loan will greatly increase your credit score". So I swallowed hard and signed the contract. Three weeks later I met a gentleman who works for TD Canada Trust and he is a Finance specialist, when I told him my situation he was horrified. He told me with my credit rating, job stability/income and no debt, that I should be paying no more than 12% interest ..... WHAT? So I looked in further and have seen that the 9 months that I have had this loan, Scotia Dealer Advantage has only reported to Equifax once ...... I was told that "they report monthly to ensure that clients are getting the most accurate credit reporting". Also they have a clause so I can never refinance this loan. I have spoken with many people who have similar stories. So if you have bad, okay or not sure about your credit, look into rates before going to the dealership and shop around, be careful that your credit is not pulled too much, but even a couple soft inquiries can help them give you an idea of financing. Hopefully people read this and don't make the same mistake that I did.
