I have always had good credit up until this last year. I moved overseas to go to college and while their got into a bit of a financial pickle. I owed a lot of money for student loans, and BMO, as well as CIBC visa credit cards.

When I began receiving calls from debt collectors on behalf of these companies I could not believe the tactics that they employed in order to attempt to retrieve payment. The most offensive being a phone call that I received today from iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency . I had arranged to make payments of 75$ a month even though I am on a very limited income, as I am a single mother of a four month old baby.

When I explained that I would make a payment as soon as I received a check which I was waiting for in the mail, the agent became very rude and arrogant and began to bully me. She told me that my first priority should be paying this debt that I owed. When I explained to her that my first priority was feeding and clothing my baby and then if I had money left over I would consider paying the debt. She told me that my child's welfare was irrelevant as this was a demand debt and realistically I should have to pay the whole thing not just monthly payments. She also told me that I should get my act together as I was old enough to and that they would sue me if I didn't pay them. I was so livid and asked to speak to a manager. She told me she was the manager. I said let me speak to whoever is above you. She proceeded to hang up on me. When I called back to complain they gave me the run around and no one would fess up to having been the one to call me. I told them that I would not let them walk all over me and treat me inappropriately regardless of how much money I owe. I couldn't believe that someone let alone a woman would sink so low as to say that paying a large corporation their $2600 was more important than taking care of a baby. I am absolutely disgusted. I also had a company try to bully my mother into paying my debt. They wanted her to get a second mortgage to help pay my debt and that if she didn't help me that they wouldn't let me back into the country when I tried to return from overseas. All I have to say is this a repulsive way to treat people. Life is never straight and narrow and financial circumstances can change very quickly. I have every intention of fulfilling my financial obligations. However It may not be as soon as they would like. Harrassing me and bullying me is just going to annoy me and isn't going to produce any more money. I'd love to find out who this woman was and have her reprimanded. Is it even worth trying to contact the company manager or would they just apologize and secretly pat their employee on the back?
