They'll usually stick you on an auto dialer after a certain amount of time that just leaves a message for you to call back.

Most people don't answer the phone when they call. So they're much more likely to call the people that answer or will respond to messages left.

The worst thing you can do to a debt collector is to NOT answer your phone. It drives them absolutely "nuts" I have heard debt collectors leave a message on an answering machine "answer your g..d.. phone"

There are only two ways a debt collector can contact you, either by phone or by mail. As a general rule, debt collectors get much more success in collecting debts by intimidating debtors on the phone than by mail. If you want to contact a collection agency, then you make the phone call. This way, you're in control of the situation. You decide when you want to contact them and how the conversation should proceed. If they get nasty, beligerant and downright unreasonable, hang up the phone and call back at a later time when everybody has had a chance to cool down.

Good Luck and have a GREAT DAY.

Talking to Collection Agencies

Postby MeMyself » Wed Aug 25, 2010 06:27:22 PM

I have been advised not to talk to the collection Agency, I have also read that this is one of the worst things that I can do. I am wondering Why I should or should not talk to the Collection Agency?

What do Collection Agency's think of people who do not answer the phone? How does not answering the phone change the way Collection agency's handle your case?
