Thanks for your suggestion average_joe. I just wanted to give an update on what is happening. I contacted Master Card and spoke to someone in the security. The agent told me to totally ignore the letter I received from the collection agency, in his opinion, it was an additional scam to receive more money. He asked me to fax him a copy of the letter I received.

I mentioned if it would be possible to get some kind of written confirmation from MC to send off to the collection agency to prove that the charges were fraudulent, unfortunately the agent said there was no such letter available but if I did hear from the collection agency or I decide to write to the collectors to advise them to contact MC directly. I'm not sure if I should just ignore the letter like the agent suggested. Would I not be better in sending them a letter explaining the situation and to contact MC if they need more info?

Collection Agency Claiming for Fraudulent Charges

Postby Annie Lee » Fri Jul 23, 2010 06:53:44 PM

Back in May, I received my Master Card (MC) statement and noticed 2 foreign charges in euro amounts. One was from Russia the other I couldn't tell. It was an online transaction. I contacted MC, my card was canceled and after a fraud investigation the charges were reversed from my statement.

Two months later I get a letter in Dutch from a collection agency claiming an exaggerated amount for the charges that were reversed from MC.
What is the best way to handle this? Do I just ignore the letter since I don't understand a word of it? (except for the words "collection agency" and "134 euros" ) Should I get MC involved? How did the collection agency get my name & address? Does MC provide the agency with its client's personal info.?
