I missed a payment with my General Motors Acceptance Corp (GMAC) lease. I've been a little short of cash lately and haven't made my payments. On my 3 year lease I was current for 2 1/2 years and now I've missed a few.

GMAC threatened that if I don't make payments on my car, they could reposses the car and sue me for any loss incurred to them and that the judgement could last on my credit report for 20 years.

Wow... all of a sudden I got a sense of how big and powerful and mammoth like GMAC is...

I decided to make GMAC my payment priority and forsake a few of my worldly pleasures for a few months. I all of a sudden got the feeling that I didn't want to go against them in any manner. I normally would fight and play the game with them.

I did however ask them for a reversal of the finance charges that they put on my car because of the late payments. They charged me $70 for the pleasure of missing two payments. I wrote them a letter like you suggested and asked GMAC to reverse these services. In return, I would make my payments promptly.

They haven't gotten back to me on that yet.

I liked the idea of writing letters, especially to a big company like General Motors Acceptance Corp. I'm going to see if I can get the big monster to reverse those nasty service charges. After all, if you don't ask, you won't receive.!
