Hi Monty, something similar to this happened to me once at work. The lady I replaced had a skip tracer after her, and this guy called and when I informed him that she no longer worked for the company, he proceeded to tell me everything about this lapsed account. He disparaged her, bigtime. I remember wondering why this man was telling me this and I told him that revealing her personal information and account history to me wasn't right - or at the very least, not professional. He tried to get me in his back pocket, so to speak, and asked if I could dig around to see if I had any forwarding information in any of the offices, for such things as sending her her T4, etc., and I told him that I was not a part of HR and it would be illegal for me to try to get access like some corporate spy. He persisted a bit, until I asked him if he would supplement my income when I got fired for it.

It was a very strange experience, to say the least. This happened in '98 or '99. I've never forgotten it.

OMG... I just got another skip trace call for somebody I don't know.. this guy must have really bad credit... I've received these types of calls for years.

I'm surprised that a collection agent is asking me to disclose information on behalf of this guy. They're trying to collect private information about this person without his permission.. IMO... this is not right based on PIPEDA
