Hi all,
Here's the story. Through a sloppy separation I ended up defaulting on a loan in the amount of $2200ish. Date of last activity is 12/04.
I have not received a single phone call on this matter even though my info on my credit file is up to date and correct. All my credit activity since this is pays as agreed and my score is 659. I want to get a mortgage but this debt is now showing me owing almost $8000 (they still charge interest after going to collections?) with no payments made.
Here's my quandary:
Is it correct all negative entries will be deleted after 6 years in canada? I'm wondering if my best bet is to just wait 10 months. Then it just goes away right??
However I'm wondering if an error was made somewhere. As I said I've never heard from anybody regarding this. Also I can't figure out what collection agency has the debt and how to contact them. My credit report seems to list the original creditor citifinancial and only has their phone number. Something just feels off somehow.
I'd like to clear this up as soon as possible though. If I do find my way to a debt collection agency what is the best way to handle this? I was thinking of starting with asking for written proof of debt. Perhaps negotiating a settlement? I really don't know my way around when it comes to this stuff so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!
I'm just worried about 'poking the hornets nest' you know?
