Last year, the CA in question was trying to get me paid an old TD bank debt, past SOL. The hard inquiry was made by the same CA. So I suppose they do it in the name of TD. My score still good 766, but I fear if they do it repetitively it will hurt badly. And my car location end this May,meaning I'll have to apply for a new car loan.. will the lender question this hard inquiry seeing its a CA inquiring about my credit?

Disagree.

Regardless as to whether a C/A can or can't, the fact is they do. My Equifax shows two types of inquiries :

1) "Following is a list of Equifax members who have received a copy of your credit file for credit granting or other permissible purposes…”.

Hard inquiries are listed here – a credit card I applied for, a loan I applied for.

2) “The following inquiries are for your information only and are not displayed to others. They include requests from authorized parties to update their records regarding your existing account with them.”

Soft inquiries are listed here, with each requestors name parenthesized with ‘Not Displayed’.

My credit report shows that both hard and soft categories have inquiries from C/As. Most damaging perhaps is that the hard category has multiple inquiries from the same agency spaced a month apart.

So unfortunately it does happen, and bumps average_joe’s question back up…what is one to do?

As was already stated they can't.

Hard Inquiry is only for when you apply for new credit.

Your credit report lists both your hard and soft inquiries so I would double check but if you see a collection agency on the hard inquiry list I would get that removed.

For one thing the number of hard pulls impacts your credit score. Second unless you score is very bad or very good in Canada we still do a lot of manual underwriting and having a collection agency listed is bad for that.

IQOR did a soft inquiry on my Equifax every few months but on my TransUnion they did a soft inquiry every single week day for a month and sometimes twice in the same day. No idea what they though would change in a few hours.

I have seven hard inquiries in my equifax credit file and twenty seven in my trans union file that were done by collection agencies without my written permission. Do I send a letter to the privacy officers of these collection agencies or do I submit a compliant with equifax to have them removed?

How many times did you give the collection agency written permission to do a hard inquiry?

You need to give the collection agency consent to collect or disclose your information in some form or another....

If you don't give them permission, they can't do a hard inquiry.

How many time a CA can make a hard inquiry? Lets say in a month? Or in a year?
