While you are figuring out what happened, its probably a good idea to bank elsewhere and put any new deposits into a new bank account they aren't aware of.

But that doesnt mean they won't or can't find that one either.

If the judgment is only against you and your husband is the breadwinner then you are pretty safe as long as you dont open another joint account.

First thing you need to do is determine if there is actually a judgment against you. The documents should list the court house and have a case number. You can try calling but most clerks will not give out information over the phone so you'll usually have to go down in person.

Assuming there is a default judgment against you can try to have it set aside but that is generally difficult. You need to find out the details of how they claim to have served you as if the debt is legitimate this is the only real hope and even this is going to be difficult. If the debt is not legitimate then it will be a major headache and time consuming but you should be able to get it fixed.

Sorry little scared and shaking here....went to put the garbage out and found a couple of documents in my mail box..no envelope just the documents. anyhow...have a judgement against me for almost 15 grand and i swear i did not know anything about all of this going to court....or i would have been there. Now they have seized my b/acct and the strangest thing is the documents were dated 10/20/09 and i just got them well last night. called my bank and yes it has been frozen. I have not got a clue as to what to do have been reading online since i found the papers. I am not employed and the monies in our joint account are hubby's pay.....all the bills are going to go back and this lil lady is scared to death...what do i do Help please if you can
