Ray from these people I have had two separate letters one has LLB
other LLS
I checked out both with the Upper Canada Law Society and I called the gentleman's office in Toronto he isn't affiliated with MJR Capital Inc.

That is why he uses Sydney in this listing title. Makes sense

They are the worst of collection agencies and I paid the amount they demanded twice now and they are after it again. Good thing I keep all reciepts my legal council is going after them because I was also paid in credit councilling once before.

They got paid twice and they are now after a third time so don't pay them they have no power.

Stop worrying about these idiots they will not show up at your door and even if you paid the amount they will come back six to eight months later and demand payment again for a higher amount.
Don't pay them they have no power and the lawyer they are quoting doesn't work for them.

They just got a name and used it. I paid them not once but twice.
I had a Canadian tire credit card account and got it paid through credit counciling they paid it out once and then Canadian tire turned it over a second time for payment with MJR just to appease them I paid it again two years ago in full and now they are demanding Payment again. So don't pay them. Contact a paralegal and have them send a letter stating that you have never had an account with the telecommunications service. they will straighten them out but what ever you do don't pay them you will regret it. No one is going to show up at your door on their behalf.

I got a letter from Joel Miskin LLB, too, saying that I owe about $1.300 to a telecommuncations company I have never had to do anything with. All the leter states is a suspecious account number with that company and two telephone numbers of MJR Collection Services.

I am new to Canada and I don't know how such stuff is handled here. In my home country, such a letter would be meaningless until somebody knocks on your door. But I am a little worried now and don't know what to do exactly. Can anybody help me out here? Should I just ignore the letter? Should I call them and ask for clarification? Is there any "help agency" for such situations?

Thanks in advance!

Law Society of Upper Canada Listing:

Full Name Joel Sydney Miskin

Status Status definitions In Private Practice

Company Name

Business Address 65 Bevshire Cir
Thornhill Ontario
L4J 5C6

Phone 905 889 0291

Fax 905 889 2701

Email address Withheld

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was a litte confused by your post.

The LSUC has only one listing for any member with the last name of MYSKIN or MISKIN, and that's the one listed above as you can readily check.

Now, Joel Miskin's letterhead and signature both have the suffix, " LLB" and "Barrister and Solicitor." accompanying them. ["LLB" means "Bachelor of Laws," i.e., a lawyer.]

I haven't heard of the term "LLS," and so I'm not familiar with it but Joel Miskin, as I said, always uses "LLB" after his name, not "LLS."

As far as that goes, anybody can sue anybody in small claims court, you don't have to be a student lawyer, much less a lawyer to do that.

Just because Miskin lists his office as being in Thornhill doesn't necessarily mean that he can't be on contract with MJR at 7033 Telford Way in Mississauga. For example, Mark Silverthorn lists 2 offices, one with Deanna Natale in Markham and another one in Mississauga.

Whatever the case, I agree it should be LLBS, instead of LLB.

Joel Sydney Miskin is in fact a Toronto Lawyer

Joel Miskin LLS is not. He is a name at the Collection Agency MJR 7033 Telford Way, Unit 17-18 Mississauga, ON Canada L5S 1V4 905-671-4151 or 1-877-669-4935
The letters L.L.S. are given to a first year law student working in a
corporate firms legal lit. depart. or for taking a law course while majoring in another science. It is not a Lawyer who has passed the bar)

I would suspect that some how MJR Capital Inc, really bad collection agency. got a hold of his name and shortened it to make it look official in this guys case it means Large Load of BS.

This guy with these credentials can't sue the feathers off a duck let alone litigate in any court. These people are scammers and if you pay them they will come back and try to collect the debt again in two year I know I am litigating this right now.
Under Canadian Law you are obligated only to pay the original debtor not a collection agency and if they send you back to the collection agency to pay it the have refused the payment there fore no debt. Call your lawyer if you have to deal with these Scam artist like MJR.

Hmm.... If one Collection agency sells, transfers, or assigns the debt to another collection agency, it always raises red flags.

I always have to ask the questions :
1) Did we authorize the creditor to use a third party collection agency somewhere in the agreement.
2) Did we authorize the collection agency to pass our private person information on to the new third party collection agency somewhere in the agreement.

3) Where in the agreement did we agree to using this "NEW" third party collection agency.

I have never seen any concrete answers on this.

My logic being... we probably didn't authorize the first collection agency in the creditor agreement, and we definitely didn't authorize a NEW collection agency.

Having said that, this agreement MAY appear somewhere in your contracts... You would have to study them to see.

BUT... certainly do ask the collection agency the following question:
1) Why should I deal with you, and 2) where specifically in writing did I authorize the creditor to let you collect me?

Ask to see the agreements from the collection agency. Otherwise, it's a harrassing phone call... In my opinion.. Please consult your local Justice Department and Consumer Protection to get more clarification on the Collections Act in your province.

AFTERTHOUGHT: If a new third party collection agency is involved that means that they've purchased the debt at a discounted rate. They're probably much more open to negotiations to reduce the settlement amount, should that be what you want to do.

Good morning:
This is the only note I've seen so far on Common Collection Agency.
As I got a call from them recently as they took over from Total Credit Recovery I wondered who these people are.
I see they did what they all do, which is to make threats they can't possibly carry out. So, anyway before I get anymore phone calls I want to know about them.
Did you resolve your problem or are they still intimitating you?
