This is the only secured credit card in Canada as far as I know. Recently I have seen M/C, VISA cash cards (they look like a credit card - but are not and do not get reported to your credit profile at either Equifax or TransUnion).
My experience with Home Trust has been great! I have been a Home Trust VISA cardholder since May 2004. Not only has this card improved my credit worthiness but it also pays 2% interest on my deposit - better than the bank interest rates and they report regularily to the credit reporting agencies. Just this week I have been approved for a personal loan, an unsecured VISA (lower amount than I currently have with Home Trust) and a overdraft on my bank account by my bank. This is a great feeling when you get your credit back.
I recommend the card to anyone who is truly serious about improving/rebuilding their credit; my suggestion would be put a little away each month until you have enough to apply for this card. If you do choose this VISA just make sure you always pay more than your minimum payment and always before the due date. Also you do get your deposit back once you have paid all of your balance and the card(s) are returned to them.
Cheers.
