Hi HouseHunting..

By law, everything on your credit report needs to be accurate complete and verifiable. If future shop doesn't have any record of that item, then it should come off your credit report... by law.

Call your consumer protection for further info.

One item shouldn't trash your credit scores down to 500... something else must be going on.

Should I dispute?

Postby HouseHunting604 » Fri Dec 05, 2008 12:02:03 PM

I'm trying to get my (bad) credit cleaned up so I can buy a second home.

I have one deragatory account with Future Shop/Wells Fargo that was sent to a collector a few years ago. I have settled this account with the collector, but there is no mention of the collection agency on my credit report at all. It is only listed as a charge off by Future Shop. (I do have a letter from the collection agency confirming I paid if I ever need it).

I phoned Future Shop credit and they have no record of me ever having an account. I phoned Wells Fargo and, after waiting on hold for 30 minutes, was still unable to speak to anyone and was forcibly transferred to a voicemail box.

I'm wondering if I should just dispute this charge. Do companies even bother responding to disputes when the files are old and have already been transferred to a collection agency?
