I'm trying to get my (bad) credit cleaned up so I can buy a second home.
I have one deragatory account with Future Shop/Wells Fargo that was sent to a collector a few years ago. I have settled this account with the collector, but there is no mention of the collection agency on my credit report at all. It is only listed as a charge off by Future Shop. (I do have a letter from the collection agency confirming I paid if I ever need it).
I phoned Future Shop credit and they have no record of me ever having an account. I phoned Wells Fargo and, after waiting on hold for 30 minutes, was still unable to speak to anyone and was forcibly transferred to a voicemail box.
I'm wondering if I should just dispute this charge. Do companies even bother responding to disputes when the files are old and have already been transferred to a collection agency?
