Avoid Mortgages with TD Bank

The TD Bank does not hold their mortgage specialist accountable for the things they promise – even when you have it in writing. They could care less about you. Avoid using the TD Bank.

I recently negotiated a mortgage with a downtown Victoria TD Bank mortgage specialist. I have worked with this specialist before on other mortgages. I travel up to 75% of the time so my wife has power of attorney to sign documents for both of us. I do all the financial planning and number crunching in our family so I negotiated the deal and because of travel and do my negotiations using email. It was supposed to be a closed variable rate mortgage at prime -.8% for 5 years. I even have an email specifying that this is exactly what the specialist was going to prepare for me and my family.

A few weeks later my wife signs the mortgage and later I find out the specialist wrote a five year fixed rate mortgage at 5.9%. We signed the mortgage so have no recourse and I take responsibility for this. However, the TD bank could give a !@$# about the email they sent me. In fact, TD Bank refused address the email. Instead, they are happy with their signed contract. I am going elsewhere.

Avoid dealing with the TD Bank. They could care less and they do not hold their brokers accountable for their advice and promises – even if you have it in writing. Simply, they do not care about you at all. Be careful.
