Canada Student Debt forum -re CollectCorp
techgrl1972 is asking about all of her documentation and what she can do regarding her complaint against Collectcorp. It's an interesting question.
We regularly advise that if you have any problems or issues with a collection agency, you immediately write them down in full. This is really important as it gives you a chance to collect "evidence" for your complaint. Usually when you have a conversation with somebody you don't write down exactly what was said... In this case, it's imperative to do so. I'm glad that techgrl1972 has taken the time to write down all of her issues with Collectcorp
Collectcorp is abusive

It's amazing what a CollectCorp "WILL" or "WILL NOT" allow.
Did you know that there are NO LAWS stating that you must deal with a collection agency in Canada. It's only when you agree to use a collection agency by contractual means that you have to deal with them. I don't believe that people would knowingly give this much power to a collection agency.
Here's a good piece of advice from DocDon over at: DocDon's comment about collection agencies
"If you haven't paid your collection account or accounts yet, negotiate with the collection agency in writing. State that you want to enter into a written agreement that they will delete the collection entry upon receipt of payment. "
CollectCorp weasels?
Kate is describing: "I have also had the lucky experience of dealing with Collectcorp trying to weasel some money from me even though I'll be a full-time student in "interest-free" status until June 2004. "
This was a year or so back, however, why would Kate be complaining about Collectcorp collecting on something that they shouldn't be. You know people are mad about things when they go on a discussion forum to vent.
fact.on.ca - CollectCorp collecting delinquent parents?
According to this website article: "Collectcorp Inc., a Toronto collection agency is one of three collection agencies participating in an Ontario government pilot project aimed at collecting child-support payments that have been in arrears for three or more years. "
Wow... it's amazing what you can get collected on these days.
And...if you're getting collected on regarding child support, you can bet that it's going to go on your credit report and affect your credit score etc.
