I'm not really familiar with student loans. I do know that they're usually alot harder to get out of than regular loans.

2 things..

1) Get your credit report and see if it's reporting at all on your equifax and transunion. That should give you some idea.
2) Get a hold of your contract for the student loan and study up on what happens if you don't pay.

student loan in collection

Postby bent_not_broke » Thu Jul 17, 2008 12:09:33 PM

I would like to start making payments on my over due student loan but would like to know what my position is before opening this particular can of worms. hoping you can help.

- is a student loan a unique kind of debt?
- are there options for lump payout that might save me some interest? If so what would a common agreement look like?
- is it advisable to have someone mediate this for me? If so who?

Thanks in advance.
