Monty,
I was doing some research on them yesterday. A guy phoned me yesterday morning, spoke really fast, and all I could make out was that he was either from NJ or his name was NJ and said he was going to put me on hold "for a sec, is that cool?" I said No, that wasn't cool and asked who he was. He quickly replied that he had to put me on hold, which he did, and I hung up.
A few seconds later the phone rang and a woman said that we'd been disconnected. I said No, I hung up, and asked her if she would hold for a complete stranger? She said no, she wouldn't. I inquired as to who she was and why was she phoning me? She said she was Mrs. Belanger from MJR Collections in Mississauga, that she "didn't know why this file" was on her desk, but she was calling on behalf of American Express. She began to tell me that American Express was prepared to offer me a "very good settlement" but I interrupted her and said I had not received a letter stating they had authorized MJR to collect on this debt.
Mrs. Belanger said they had sent me a letter and I responded, "A few seconds ago you said you didn't know why the file was on your desk." I told her I wouldn't speak to her until I received the letter, politely said Good-bye, and hung up.
From my research, the full name is MJR Collection Services Ltd. and the Mississauga office telephone number is 905-671-4151. An additional phone number is 877-669-4935. They have an unsatisfactory record with the BBB.
