Marie, the reason they probably didn't call you back again after the supervisor called you was because they expired the "3 contacts per 7 days" rule. Of course, it will not be documented that they called you this many times, but you are no doubt dealing with a junior collector who likes to "follow up" with token payments of $100 and end up pissing the hell out of the debtors to the point that they refuse to deal with it anymore. Then, they will have senior collectors or supervisors "double" the call to try and calm you down and make an arrangement with you.
I'll let you know this, I've personally dealt with MJR in the past for a Canadian Tire mastercard. This agency has a munch of morons who don't know how to collect money. They pussyfooted around my account because they knew I was a collector but did have the nerve to call me if my internet banking payment was a few days late. Even with me paying $300 a month (in "token payments") they still had junior collectors on the dialer call me and leave voice mails at home, on the cell and at home to call back. Once I did, all I got was, "I see your payment was made, are we going to be paying in full soon?"
I'll tell you even as a collector, their agency is garbage and don't know how to train their collectors properly, and I truly do not blame you for being frustrated with their garbage.
Marie, they are not going to sue you. You didn't hear Joel Miskens name once in a conversation, and just heard "legal department" a ton of times. If you want, play back with them. Tell them to go fly a kite and have Joel personally call you. Tell them that they are in violation of the 3 contacts per week. OR, if you don't want to deal with them on the phone any more, don't answer their calls. If it's the collector calling you, MJR Collections will show up on your call display. If it's unlisted, it's because it's their dialer. Send them a simple letter telling them until you get your situation straightened out, you are sending them a cease and desist and will make a payment arrangement via registered mail only or you can inform them that you are locating your separation papers to prove the debt was transfered to him by the courts. Unless someone else has MJR's fax number, I can get you one.
