I am an _extremely_ healthy individual. My yearly check-ups from doctors always come back with an excellent grade.
Two years ago I had what is known as a molar pregnancy. It is miscarriage with the complication of a pre-cancerous condition--that is very treatable.
When I signed up for life insurance, one of the questions I was asked was "have you ever had cancer". Technically I had to answer "yes", I had a pre-cancerous condition.
I was given a lower grade of health and consequently had to pay a higher premium. I contested it. Jumped through all the hoops, and cut through all the red tape the insurance companies do to make things super-extra complicated. My doctor even wrote a letter on my behalf to explain my circumstances. Canada Life would not budge on its premium grade.
So, not only did I lose a baby--I was "punished" some more by having to pay higher fees. Even though I have a excellent bill of health.
