There's a card from Chase called the Freedom Reward Card that is very flexible. You might want to look into it.

You might also take a look at artofcredit.com. Their focus is mostly on how to build credit and apply for credit cards, but there are a lot of people discussing rewards cards too.

I have a Chase Rewards card that offers 5% back for gas, drugstore, and grocery purchases and 1% for everything else. I don't know if they are still offering that level because it is rather generous. I charge everyting I can and have earned $150 in the last 6 months just by swiping the card.

I am a big fan of the citi thank you network cards. It is a point based system (no cash back) that offers a number of ways to earn bonus points. While you don't get a cash reward, they do offer gift cards to a number of major retailers and restaurants.

Is there a website out there or another resource available to find the best credit card rewards program?

I just paid off all of my cc debt and am looking to use a single card for those necessity purchases that I can simply pay off every month. I'm wondering if there's a card that allows you to choose from a wide variety of rewards...airline tix, consumer products, cash back, etc. Thanks for the help!
On Jun 13, 2011, Doubloon Said:
CCHelper.. My point is that I eat more at restaurants when I can benefit from the points. I shop less elsewhere when I don't get anything. I'm not a wild spender, but the rewards induce me to shop certain places and less at others that I don't benefit from. Thanks for clarifying the question I think partly misunderstood.

CCHelper,
for the most part I pay off my credit card at the end of each month... this last month paid off half of my balance and left the other balance to collect interest... is this still ok since I did collect points... I know you said it was expensive to collect rewards points if you're paying interest on a monthly balance, however, when is the cut off?

I have the TD Classic Travel Visa Card which seems to be a pretty good rewards credit cards for Canada

Cineplex has the Scene rewards program in Canada where you can earn enough to go to the movies... they offer this program in conjunction with ScotiaBank.

Again, this type of rewards program is for people who like a specific vendor... if you like going to the movies and getting free movie tickets, then this is for you. the article also mentions that the Scene rewards card gives you discounts at Cineplex..
On Jun 12, 2011, Monty Loree Said:
I just saw this Globe & Mail article about credit card usage in Canada. It seems the more and more people are catching on to the fact that they might as well earn some rewards from their credit card usage.

Apparently 59% of Canadians pay off their credit cards at the end of each month... if this is the case, then they should be collecting rewards.... the other 41% should stay away from rewards cards, if they're paying interest.

Hello Islamic45736.. The best card you can apply for to get free airline ticket is the Capital One Delta SkyMiles World MasterCard. Capital One is the banking partner for Delta. The Delta SkyMiles World MasterCard comes with a usual $120 primary card annual fee that you will come across on nearly all premium cards that offer comparable rewards and benefits but gives a 25,000 SkyMiles welcome bonus which is corresponding to a free flight in North America. It means that you are getting more than the amount you will be paying for the annual fee.

Because of the recent changes in the rewards structure of the Citi Dividend card, I actually built a little analysis tool to help me with the question of which cashback card, or mix of cards, would be optimal for my situation. Then I decided to make it into a general-purpose tool available to anyone. The way it works is you enter your monthly spending pattern by category (gas, restaurant, grocery, etc.), and it calculates your expected annual cash reward for each card and also for the best mix of 2 cards, 3 cards, etc.
On Jun 8, 2011, Emerald Isle Said:
I believe the entire purpose of credit card rewards is to get us to spend more. Duh. Why else would we be given free money if they weren't getting something in return for it? If there were no rewards offered the growth of credit cards over the last 20 years would not have happened. It was the rewards that motivated us to start using cards and pushed more stores to accept for small transactions, because the customer wanted it to get their points.

Some of the Cap One points cards pay better rewards than the cash back cards in certain categories. For example, for a while they were offering a points card that payed 5% rewards at restaurants, entertainment venues like movie theaters, and gyms. That was a sweet card.

One such points card that's still available is the Capital One No Hassle Points Rewards card. It pays 2% rewards at gas stations, grocery stores, and drug stores and 1% elsewhere.
