Just a side note: I recently delisted www.rosemont-school.com. I had this site for my kids and their school. I was the president of the PTA at the time. I no longer needed the URL so I dropped it from my list of URL's. Google's not treating me well with this as they won't drop it from their listings. Now somebody else has picked up the url and is still getting the benefit of my listing. Please google, stop listing www.rosemont-school.com :)

Hey Elaine,
You have every right to do what you did. That's a perfectly legitimate letter and question that you wrote to CBCL. It is their responsibility to prove to you how and why they're collecting you.

Please do contact your local consumer protection on the phone and in writing to complain about CBCL if they don't give you the proof you're looking for.

Another thing to do:
If a collection agent calls you, ask them for proof that they're licensed in your province. A collection agent and a collection agency must both be licensed in your province before they can collect you, by law. If they don't provide proof that they're licensed, you don't have to deal with them.

There have been occasions when the collection agent isn't licensed in the province for what ever reason. They're not acting within their collection agency regulations if they're not licensed in your province.

Anyway... good for you for writing your letter to cbcl... I'm not surprised by their reaction. They're not used to the people they collect taking the offense.

Let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

I wrote a letter to CBCL and asked for original paperwork with my signature to prove what and to whom I owe money, I explained that I have a financial advisor who will help me get my financial affairs in order, they phoned and asked me what kind of scam am I trying to pull.
