As the winners of last weekend's $14.5-million 6/49 jackpot know, there are highs to government-sanctioned gambling. Big highs. But there are also lows, extreme lows.
A new Canadian study, for example, has found that gamblers have stronger cravings for the casino than alcoholics for the bottle.

"People turn to gambling looking for joy and excitement," Tavares was quoted as saying in a CanWest News Service report.
"People turn to alcohol to find relief."
