I know how Equifax works with 6 years past date of last payment and have had success working with them in the past for a Bell account I paid which actually has been removed.

I just got my TransUnion account today and there is a collection for $60 which is late fees of a movie from 2001 plus interest.

I have fought with the original store and the collection agency and even went as far as Comsumer Affairs complains and privacy complaint because I my membership agreement only said that late fees would be charged to my credit card, which they didn't even ask for.

It is now 7 years later and on the TransUnion it is listed as opened: 06/2005, what is TransUnion's policies? I find it very hard to believe that I have to live with this on my credit file till 2011, for late fees!

No, if you have original documents as proof they will probably help... although you may have to ask more than once.

Equifax doesn't seem to do their own investigations. Something on my account was re-aged, and equifax wanted me to send them evidence of a non payment (how do you prove a non payment) rather than actually request the listing party provide a statement of account, which would be the far more logical way.

According to them, when they do an investigation, all they have to do is phone the listing party and ask if the information is correct. If that listing party is a collection agency, well, their word is still gold. :(

If you can baby step them through with the evidence you will probably be OK... although from what I heard you may have to provide the evidence and make the request a couple of times.

Really eh. I have two items I want to dispute on Equifax report. So from you said, even though I do have all original documents as a solid proof, Equifax won't give a darn about it?

Actually, I don't know. I have yet to get equifax to actually do an investigation. I started with equifax and beat my head against the wall. Transunion had to be reminded that they're facing a class action suit at the moment and probably shouldn't make things worse... then they did a VERY thorough investigation.

Equifax still hasn't. They don't care what Transunion had to say.

I suspect that Transunion, with a copy of the Equifax report, may take your claims more seriously than if it was vice versa.

So logically speaking, it's the best to deal with either 1 of the agencies first and obtain an updated report from them. Then use that updated report to dispute the other?

In this way, you aren't opening up two fronts for your battle. What do you think?

Basically it just has to be verifiable means. If your work has a fax machine that shows you the first page of the letter you send and that it went through, that's verifiable.

Registered mail is good too, but the fax is cheaper.

Depending on where you are they have have a local office for delivery. I did that, and made them sign a waybill as a delivery slip.

Thanks Angela. You have no idea how ridiculous it is. It said I owe a total balance of $113,000. God. I almost fainted when I saw that lol.

Isn't registered letter better?

They are... well.. pretty bad sometimes. In my experience, though, they're easier to deal with.

Send them an email or fax (fax is probably best) outlining everything that is screwed up and, yes, you can send them a copy of the equifax report as proof.

I actually had success with having them remove items.
