I'm new to the site, so sorry if I shouldn't post this here... I'm just not sure.
I just had a call from an ex-land lady of mine at a place I haven't lived in about five years (I've lived in two places since then). She said someone called from CBV asking for me and asked if she'd pass on a message. She then passed it on through a mutual friend then to me. I have no idea if they know its a collection agency, but once I realized I was mortified!
I'm very good about paying my bills, though I have been late in previous years when I was young (say 7 or 8 years ago). I can't imagine what they'd be collecting on.
I tried calling the number and I'm repeatedly put through to someone's voicemail. I don't really want to leave a message, I want to talk to someone directly and have them answer my questions.
So far no luck.
I can't imagine where I could possibly owe money, but all the posts on here are making me nervous. I did use Telus about five years ago before switching to Sprint, but I do know my bills for that were all paid up. So I really don't know what it could be.
I bought an apartment last year, and NOTHING came up on the credit cheque for that, yet it must be something old as they had a really old address.
Since I haven't dealt with them at all, I'm trying to sort out how I should go about it. Ideally, I'd prefer to deal only in writing (is that possible?) as I then have a paper trail and have a chance to understand whats being said. But I also don't want them contacting people who are friends or old landlords as thats horrible for them and inappropriate. I'm not going to ignore this issue, of course, but does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
I've never had collections after me before.
