Canadian Tire might not update your bureau, but CRS certainly will if they own the debt. And.. if its THAT OLD... they must own it. Why risk getting a collection account on your credit bureau for 6 years over $97?

Common sense says don't pay it.

Hah... I feel sorry for the collectors trying to make commission on 15 year old debt.

Legally, they can't sue you -- which means no judgment. And even though I'm against not paying your bill, no matter how old it is ------- and I'm not sure (but don't quote me) that when your creditor sells your debt, they relinquish their right to update to your credit bureau.

SO, even if this person feels for moral right to pay back that $97, Canadian Tire Bank no longer has the right to update your bureau. But like I said, don't quote me.

no, they can't make u pay, they can only make u pay if it's within 7 years, and u said the account was from 1993, ur way over ur seven years, u don't have to pay nothing. it's not even on ur credit. but the second u pay it, they'll put their name on ur credit report, and say that u payed bad debt, and ur credit goes bad again. u tell them that it's been over 7 years, and it's not within statute. they'll shut up and stop calling u. they can't even go after u legally.

Canadian Tire Card

Postby wader1970 » Fri Nov 30, 2007 01:10:08 PM

I received a letter from this company this week advising I owe $97 from 1993 when I was in university.

Can they even collect this money after all this time? The card was with Canadian Tire and they say they purchased the account from them. Surely there is some sort of time limit on these issues?

Can they get a judgment and put it on my credit bureau? I have tried to call and get answers but no one seems to know for sure?
