If there isn't any recent attempts to establish credit or basically if the person's info on their credit report does not match the information on the application, then they would want verification. Possibly when this individual put where he worked, his credit report either didn't show that information or something completely different in its place.

Plus it is Capital One. "hands in your pocket"?? We all know who they are; it is an established company.

pretty easy to get there is a lot of fraud activity that goes on with them. This way they make sure that they are sending out the cards to who they are supposed to be. You would not like it if somebody sent in an application stating that they were you and then sending them a credit card in your name and having it ruin your credit rating right?

Monty, I just thought it was weird that they needed to have proof of the mailing address when they mailed the letter to his residence. I just thought it was kind of weird.

He applied for this card online and gave his DOB, if he did not do that then the application will not process.

Also T4's for the last 3 years?? That is a bit much. They should say "Gaurentee Approval" only if you can prove all this information.

Another friend of mine got approved and got the card in the mail so I have no idea why they want all this information from him??

While I agree that identity privacy is important, the mail system usually proves to be secure...

I don't think Capital One is asking for anything too unreasonable.

If they want proof of your friends postal address, there's nothing wrong with that. Capital One needs to confirm a person's current address. You can imagine that from the millions of people they mail out to each year, many have moved away and have a new address.

I think this is all reasonable.

Be careful about this one. Eventhough they say "gaurentee approval" that is not always true.

For instance my friend applied for that card and they sent him a letter back saying they need his mailing address? Hello??....didn't you just mail a letter to his place of residence?? Also they wanted proof of DOB, either a copy of his drivers licence or passport and T4 slips for the last 3 years!!!.

That was a bit fishy to me because if he mailed this off and it got lost in the mail, there is a high chance of identiy fraud.

To me if they are going to put "Gaurentee Approval" they should do so no matter what!!.

Also with this card, you need to pay a $75 deposit before they give you the card. They will send you a letter if you are approved or not and tell you that you need to send a security deposit for the account!!.

There is a saying, "If it is too good to be true, it general is"

My favourite part of the online application process is this following quote from the completion page:

I did a bunch of research on Canadian banks to figure out which ones have secured credit card applications online.

TD Canada Trust, Royal Bank Canada, Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and ScotiaBank all do not carry have a secured visa application online. If you want a secured credit card from these Major Canadian Banks you have to go into their branch offices and apply in person.
That's not as convenient as Capital One Canada's MasterCard and being able to apply with them online!
