I received a call today from this company; that I have been waiting for, since they did contact me by mail. The first contact said I owned Telus 845.47 dollars (that is the outstanding bill plus disconnection fees for three phones). Not a problem I owe this money, but a week later I got another notice that then said I owed 911.23. This of course got me wondering how a bill in collections could go up by that much.
Of course the lady first went into dribble about a deal if I paid them tomorrow I could save money, without ever telling me the amount, The moment I asked how much it was I would save, she went back into her little rant, I then explained to her it was not possible for me to pay off this debt by tomorrow, that I would be more then happy to pay it off in 3 easy payments.
The moment I offered this, she then asked me if my house was in my name or my parents name. I thought to myself ok Im game I will see where this is going. I told this woman that I am 30, and sure do not live with my parents. She then fastly went into a spill about how they can put a lien on my home for this debt if I am not willing to pay it. I of course said in my most confused voice, I do not understand, you can put a lien on a house that is not in my name for a debt I have offered to pay? She got a little pissy, and responded with we will see whos name that house is in, I then made sure I made myself sound even more confused. And responded with. So you will take a loan out on my house and put it on this debt and I will be debt free. :0) After about 10 minutes of me talking her around in circles, she transfered me to her supervisor.
This guy was a bigger winner then she was, I right away asked him how did an account in collections change amounts? He informed me that Telus gave them permission to collect 24% interest on the account as long as its in collections, I in turn said really? Cause Telus late interest charges is only 2%, and that I would be calling Telus next find out if it is normal for them to give collection agency's permission to charge interest on accounts they no longer hold (Btw the answer is no Telus does not collect any interest on accounts no longer held by them). He didnt really like the idea of me calling Telus. He began to panic, insisting I had to pay the debt off by tomorrow, that I would save the big 50 dollars if I did, and clearly I needed to save that 50 dollars. Insulting a person you want money from is not a very good way to get money :0) I then informed him that I have already offered a payment plan that was more then fair, and that they refused it. He then reminded me about that little lien on a house I dont even own :0) He also wanted to know why my husband did not trust me enough to put the house in my name also (silly rabbit you catch more flys with honey)
Long story short, this has to be the worse collection agency ever, what kind of company does not accept a payment unless it is in full? Also what type of company insults and makes idle threats when clearly the person speaking to you, was more then willing to pay the debt off at the start of the conversation.
Now my issue is I have called Telus, and they claim they can not accept payments from me cause the account is closed. How do I get past this, I am not willing to pay an agency like this, but I am more then willing to pay Telus.
Thanks
