Was the law office Deanne Natale?

Somewhere on this site Raymond has posted the legislation on SOL and when the changes came into effect, but for credit card debt you're probably good.

Call the courthouse to see if there has been anything filed against you. I suspect there has not been.

Just because you can't pay debt does not make you a deadbeat.

We all have problems, some of us financial, that's life.
I have NEVER had a collection agency actually take legal action against me, and I have (no word of a lie) been threatened by phone and by mail probably 100 times.
I have also never heard of anyone being taken to court by a collection agency.
Having said that, the ones that I have had dealings with are shady to say the least. iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency , CBV and Nordon have been the fun ones, but I love the game, so I don't stress about calls or letters (neither of which I receive from any of them anymore).
There may be others on this site who have in fact had legal dealings with collection agencies, and Monty or Ray would be the best ones to ask about this, but in my opinion it's a scare tactic they use to scare the stupid, the weak, the elderly and the vulnerable. (no offence to anyone who falls into any of these categories).
File a complaint with the BBB online, which takes about 15 minutes. The calls will stop at least for a little while if not forever.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for the quick response, and vote of confidence, its something that is quite alien to me now. I live in Ontario. And no, I have lost my home and the letter in the move. I'm afraid that since I've moved they might have tried to serve me with summons, but where unable to locate me since the move in the spring. Where would I find information if they got a judgement against me.
You know I have full intentions on paying back the bill, but during the last 5 years was lucky and sometimes not to have food on the table, never mind money for this debt. I tried to explain to them my situation, they were, well, I say demonic. That may be hard to understand, because I really don't want to go into the horrifing things I have recently gone through, but trust me, these people are cold as death(I really don't know how they sleep at night) But I still want to pay my bill, and will when I can. I never told them I wouldn't pay, but that I couldn't at that time. I really don't care about them, or their tactics. I do care about my moral being and I know I owe. And thats the only thing that matters to me. Is to pay them back, get them out of my life and get on to a better existence, with a clear conscience. I just don't like the idea of being sent a bill for double what I owe. What's wrong with this system. I mean if you have trouble paying the first amount what makes them think they can get double?

Nobody thinks you're a deadbeat. Well... maybe the collectors reading the site, but nobody cares what they think. :)

Sounds like another collection tactic... and an illegal one at that. Hopefully you kept their "notice"...? What province do you live in? The statute of limitations for suing has likely run out.

Questions???

Postby zippers » Tue Sep 25, 2007 03:20:06 PM

I hope I am posting in the right area, as this is my first post please forgive me if I should have posted elsewhere.
I have some bad credit card debt and could use some help finding answers to a few questions I have. The debt I incurred back at the turn of the millenium, hasn't seen a payment since I lost my job in 2002. I have been harrassed by collection companies for years now. I did recieve one letter informing me that legal action was being taken a few months ago. I haven't heard from them since and was never served with and court summons. The letter was from a lawyers office 1000 miles away. What do I do? Is the letter just a ploy from the most recent collection agency? Can they sue me from Toronto when I live and have lived all m life so far from where this firm is located. I am totally hanging out to dry. If they can and did, where would I find information on whether there is a judgement against me. Just so you all don't think me a deadbeat. After losing my job was in an accident, have had some terrible family losses and am on disability, for now. But I am very close to getting back on my feet. I hope to get back to work soon and if I have to, pay back the debt, (though I feel I've paid for at least some by their heartless tactics and relentless harrassment!!!)
