hey ginwithtonic,

It's fun to go and look at collection agencies such as Contact Resource Services Inc. on http://www.bbb.org

I've heard alot of people say that the Better Business Bureau is not valuable sometimes, however, in this case it gives you a nice little bit of history on Contact Resource Services Inc.

Thanks for giving us their rap sheet :)

They have no right and no power over you.
You don't have to pay it, and I would take it a step further and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Really it's fraud. Staple them to the wall.

Hey ginwithtonic,

If the debt is 10 years old, it is past the statutes of limitation.
They can't force you to pay it.

If you settled the debt, it's always a good idea to keep your paper work so that you can prove that it was settled and agreed to.

Many times, collection agencies will buy old debts and then try to collect them... it's not uncommon. If they're past the statutes of limitations in your province you don't have to worry about it.

Purchased debt?

Postby ginwithtonic » Wed Aug 22, 2007 09:11:19 AM

Hello all,
I have been reading and reading and i can't find an answer to my question. So here goes.

More then 10 years ago i paid off my debt to a credit card by using a settle-up amount. I no longer have the papers either. In 10 years i have moved a number of times and some of my financial papers have been lost or shredded.

Just recently i received a letter from Contact Resource Services saying that they purchased my account and are now trying to collect on it. It of course has a settle up amount on it with a very large amount of interest.

It then has a line that i must notify the office within 30 days of receiving this letter to dispute the validity of the debt.

Is this a scam letter? How would any of you suggest that i proceed? Can a company sell the portion of my debt if it was a settle-up amount.

Thanks for looking...i seem to have written a book.
