RE: collection agency misconduct - not the debt but the behavior

Listen, I can understand stepping over the line with the amount of calls to force you into insanity, but most people define a bill collector call as harassment, because they just chose not to deal with the matter and tell them not to call. Unfortunately, it's not an option. Most people are just ignorant on the front.

While you may define harassment as "persistence without a cause," most bloggers like Elizabeth would define it as "persistence without a brain" - meaning your buddies "Dudeman."

They won't send you a "bill" but they will send you a letter confirming they are authorized to collect on behalf of the creditor and inform you of the balance.

Update your home address with them. Once this is done, they must wait 5 business day until they can contact you again (as per the Collection Agency Act). It shouldn't take any longer than 5 days for you to get it.

Secondly, a collection agency calling you is not harassment. Harassment is defined as "persistence without a cause." The collectors are calling you, (with reason) as you owe a creditor money. The police cannot and probably will not do anything for you.

collection agency misconduct - not the debt but the behavior

Postby horns_pointed_forward » Tue Aug 14, 2007 02:52:19 PM

i have been dealing with a stituation with a debt collection agency and i would like to know what approriate internal measures are in regards to breach of the bpcpa .

after complaining to the bpcpa in regards to the conduct of a couple agents, an investigation(performed by an obudman employed by said agency), an apology conference call, and finally assurances that appropriate internal measures will be taken, i am still left with the feeling that not much is being done to stop the abussive behavior of some collection agents.

i feel i have exhausted all avenues available to me as a consumer (aside from suing them....which given my financial situation i can not afford) and believe these agents were found to have breached several section of the bpcpa and all they had to do was applogize.....woopy big deterant ..so...i would like to know before i go on ranting about the conclusion of my complaint...what does "appropriate internal measures" mean?

note: this is not about the debt but about the behavior of these agents

Investment Guide - Aggressive Management

Postby jack25bc » Sun Aug 12, 2007 08:51:22 AM

Fundamentals are an important and basic guide to the financial strength of a company and its future prospects.
ADD aggressive management to the list of fundamentals like

price/earnings ratios, debt to equity and cash flow analysis.
Aggressive management will " grow " the company to outperform peers and the market.
A leading example is Suncor ( SU) which built its oilsands project on massive debt - when oil was less than $50 a barrel.
Suncor is in production - oil is at $70 and now Suncor is less than a year away from a second expansion.

The Company has announced a third expansion to raise production in 2011. You now have visibilty and growth four years out. In addition the daily cash flow makes the Company less reliant on the current state of the financial markets.

Inflation Returns with the Sub- prime Bank Rescue

Postby jack25bc » Sat Aug 11, 2007 11:03:31 AM

Beware the Trojan horse of easy money.
Billions of dollars added by the central banks around the world on Friday - particularly in the U.S. and Canada will result in increased inflation.
They may not have had a choice in the efffort to end financial gridlock but there will be unintended consequences for us all , as a result.
The U.S. dollar will keep sliding - and this may accelerate if the Fed cuts interest ratesin September or earlier.
Commodities - dominated in U.S. dollars will rise - hence golds increase on Friday.
Stay with the resources like oil , copper , zinc and the producers who mine them - see the AMP Portfolio at the market blog http://www.amprogram.com

RE: Canadian Debt Recovery Ltd. -Presidents Choice Mastercard

well from what I have read, this collection agency broke a lot of the statutes in the Collection Agencies Act, they never supplied me with an original letter, they threatened and intimidated me, essentially called me a liar when I told them I never received the letter. I offered them generous monthly payments, which they turned down because I couldn't make payments immediately, I wanted the payments to start in 2 weeks after the time I made the offer, and they said either by the end of the month, which I did not have the money to do it then, or the offer was being rejected. I have all of this in writing, as I started having only correspondence with them over fax.
