I would start to write letters to Equifax and TransUnion to get them to remove the item.

By law everything on your credit report must accurate complete and verifiable. If they can't verify the item, clearly it must be deleted.

Shouldn't be a problem to get it fixed.

I have a question hopefully someone can help me with. In the 90's I had serious financial problems out of school that distroyed my credit. A lot has dropped off over the 6 years, but there is one collection that is lists CBV as the collection agency. Ok, so I call them and they don't have the debt. So I call the company and they don't have a record of my account. I want to pay this but don't know where. Should I try CBV again? How long do they keep collection accounts before they are sent back? How long do most collection agencies keep collections so I can have an idea of what I am looking at in finding this?
