All "Trade" and "Collection" accounts are "purged" from a Credit Report 6 years from the "Original Date of Default with the Original Creditor".

If you have a Credit Report that you downloaded from the Equifax website, then this information will not be shown on the Report. You will have to request a FREE Consumer Disclosure Report from Equifax. Their phone number is 1-800-465-7166. You will receive it in 5 - 7 days.

When you receive it, check the "Original Date of Default" in the "Trade" section for Fido. Also, check the "Original Date of Default" in the "Collection" section showing the 2 collection agencies. The "Original Date of Default" should be identical with all 3 accounts. However, some collection agencies "pull a fast one" and will deliberately ( albeit fraudulently ) forward the "Original Date of Default" to a later date thereby keeping the "Collection" account on your Credit Report longer than it should be before it is "purged". If you find this to be the case, then you must notify Equifax to change the "Original Date of Default" to the date that is shown in the "Trade" section with Fido. What is supposed to happen is that the Fido "Trade" account and the 2 "Collection" accounts will all "purge" at the same time.

Thank you for the explanation footloose. I was getting kinda scared there for a minute.

The title is actually 'public records and other information'

Is that why maybe they are listed there? and how long do they stay there for?
I have no intention of paying this debt because I dont owe the money in the first place to Fido and i refuse to give them another cent of my hard earned cash!

In an Equifax Credit Report under Public Records are reported ONLY Consumer Proposals, Bankruptcies, Voluntary Deposits, Orderly Payment of Debts, Credit Counselling, Judgments, Repossessions, Garnishments and Secured Loans including Mortgages.

What you have described sounds more like Collection Accounts and therefore, they are NOT judgments.

If you look in the "Trade" section of your Credit Report, you will probably see an account with Fido. If this account is currently in arrears, then it has been assigned to a collection agency for recovery. The names of the collection agencies will be shown under "Collection Accounts".

It was originally assigned to a collection agency for recovery but they were unsuccessful in collecting this debt. Fido then reassigned this debt to another collection agency for recovery. That explains why this debt is reported by two separate collection agencies.

As long as this debt remains unpaid, each time Fido reassigns this debt to another collection agency, it will be reported by the new collection agency under "Collection Accounts".

Hope this explains and answers your question.

Experian is a credit reporting agency domiciled in the U.S., therefore, the comments reported relate to a U.S. Credit Report.

Information reported in the Public Record Section of a U.S. Credit Report can be quite different than those reported in a Canadian Credit Report especially when Experian does not operate in Canada.

I would suggest that you address your concerns to Experian or to a U.S. website where they are more familiar with the reportng practices of Experian.

Strange Public Record on Credit Report

Postby britishvixen21 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 06:49:01 PM

Hi There,

Wondering if anyone can help me. I just recieved my credit report from Experian and there are 3 public records showing up that i have not seen on there before.

From what i can tell from google these are judgements however, I have never been served any papers by these companies. They are all aware of where i live and work (have been at the same place for some time)

The strangest thing is that two of the public records both from different debt collectors seem to pertain to the same debt with Fido but for different amounts and on different dates.

One was reported on Jan 2010 in the amount of $706 with the last payment being on December 2009. balance now $745

The second one was reported on November 2011 in the amount of $610 with last payment being on December 2009. balance now $706.

Can someone shed some light on what these are, why they same debt would be noted twice and whether i could have a judgement against me and not know it?

Also how can i defend this?

Thanks so much in advance.
