R4 refers to payments that are 3 or more months behind, while R9 is a write-off, usually after 180 days.

Unless the payment, made 2 weeks ago, brought the account fully up to date, it's most unlikely, CTC will consider ever restoring it, no matter what you do.

CTC, by the way, is one of the worst outfits to deal with; they readily instruct their collection agencies to sue. So I'm not sure if your superior negotiating skills will prove to be of much value.

it's actually a friends card - easier to explain as mine

the card was 3 months behind....he went and made a payment about 2 weeks ago. He's hoping to clear up the debt and retain the account - his financial troubles were just temporary.

He sent them a letter giving me permission to act on his behalf - but they won't allow that - they want a formal Power of attorney - CTC said they cannot discuss his account without this - yet they handed his personal info over to CRS without a POA. CRS will talk to me - but they can't tell me whether his account will be preserved.

But now he's thinking - if they're going to give me an R9 regardless, I might as well hold off and negotiate the debt. So he's trying to ask them to let him clear this up - and for them not to further report negative comments on his credit, he's not available during the day to call them - and they won't speak to me.

how far behind are you in payments?
what does your credit report say.? are you R9?

if you're R9, then you're probably dealing with a collection agency as Canadian Tire has written off the debt

canadian tire and crs

If I am getting statements from Canadian - but also from CRS - who do I deal with

Canadian tire statments say bring account up to date in order to preserve my credit....CRS is aggressive....and wants me to pay them.

Does this mean that the debt is sold to CRS...is there a chance to save my credit with Canadian tire....
