They said when they Googled my name, up popped this information which lead to questions about an old bankruptcy about which they were very unimpressed and said they would have to pass on my application.

Now I have a different issue to deal with -- because I am able to prove now that the 1994 bankruptcy was discharge in 1995 plus I have a copy of my credit file from both Trans Union and Equifax and no where is there mention of the bankruptcy ... Which means the company I applied for a job with lied. They lied by telling me that the reason why I was turned down for the job was because I had an undischarged bankruptcy on my file, which is untrue.

So thanks everyone very much for your help. I appreciate it immensely. Now, as I said, it seems I have another, different issue to deal with now.

Again, thanks very much.

Bit of an update...

My bankruptcy trustee has emailed me a copy of the bankruptcy document from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy which clearly shows the bankruptcy was discharged in 1995!

I can't thank you enough for helping me with this. I will do exactly what you suggest and post the results here in case others run into the same problem. Again, thanks very much!

Here is the website of the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada

http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/bsf-osb.nsf/eng/br01003.html

It will provide you with all the necessary information and contacts.

You will note that they have an office in Halifax. I would strongly suggest that you make a personal visit to this office. Be sure to bring along your credit report so that they can see your bankruptcy listed which is in contravention to your provincial consumer reporting legislation.

Be sure to contact them first by phone and ask them to set a date and time to discuss this problem. That way, they will be expecting your visit and it will prevent you from either waiting for an officer or getting the run around.

That's great information! Thanks very much. Where is this Office? In Toronto? I'm currently in Halifax although I was living in Ontario at the time of the bankruptcy.

Also, contact the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy. They reported your Discharge to the 2 credit bureaus, not your Trustee in Bankruptcy. Only the "Office" can report the Discharge and only they can have it removed. Equifax did not suddenly report your bankruptcy for no reason at all. Someone had to report this information to Equifax. If the "Office" cannot have it removed, contact Equifax to determine who reported this old bankruptcy.
