Thank you for the quick reply and confirmation.
The SOL information is more applicable to my own debts then my fiances.
I'm mostly concerned with my main questions which I included in this post as well.

I did not at anytime identify myself or my relationship with *GFs name* or even confirm I knew her. By revealing that *GFs name* was on social assistance to an unidentified person has Brian violated the Canadian Privacy Act?

Also by using a PIPEDA request can I obtain transcripts of the calls made and Brian's collectors license # to lodge a formal complaint?

Thank you again.

Dealing with CBV Collection Services LTD.

First of all a big "Thank You" to the creator of this site, great info and nice to know I'm not the only one.
My fiance was recently contacted by CBV concerning a visa account. The agent claimed she had not made a payment in over 4 years. Her last payment had been within the last 3 years when she informed him of this he acknowledged that the payment had been made but continued to claim 4 years without payment.
She also informed him that we have no money to work out even a modest payment plan as we're on social assistance which barely provides enough funds for basic living.
Not to mention the sneaky method they used to get her to confirm her address followed by an unannounced change of caller. (female voice "We have mail that was returned" confirm address, hold, male voice)
Unfortunately she's not as suspicious and/or experienced with telephone harassment as I am and did acknowledge the debt.
Today I answered the phone and Brian from CBV requested her. Well I'm not one to just hand the phone to her when dealing with any company mainly because we've been harassed by telemarketers to the point of joining the do not call list.
I asked who was calling to which I received the reply "Brian from CBV." Well I didn't exactly know what CBV is so I asked him what the full name of the business was which Brian refused to elaborate.

Brian asked me who I was to which I responded he had called my phone and I had no reason to identify myself. Brian asked me if I was her personal bodyguard (sounds like a veiled threat to me). I laughed and replied no. Brian asked if I had power of attorney for *GFs name*, which I did not respond too. I asked again what the full name of his business was and what the nature of the business was. He told me yet again that it was CBV and that he'd told me 3 times already, it was recorded and could be played back. I asked what country he was calling from which he replied "What do you think?"
At this point he tried to shake me asking if I liked being on social assistance. This is the crux of my question.
And finally what is the statute of limitations in Nova Scotia? My interpretation of the Limitation of Actions Act as posted at http://nslegislature.ca/legc/statutes/limitatn.htm was 6 years but I'm not fluent in legaleze.
Thank you again, any advice will be appreciated.
