Update:

Haven't repaired anything. Didn't send any letters. Applied for RBC Visa Avion Infinite. CIBC Aerogold Infinite. Turned down for both. I don't hold any accounts at CIBC so I didn't further pursue it, but i'm still tempted to toss them 5k of security for the card so I can get more aeroplan points.

I do banking at RBC. Emailed banker the letter of rejection. They went through my transunion report which shows all my past sins. Approved for 10k limit Avion Infinite.

So it sounds to me like my best bet is to just write the goodwill letters to mbna, rbc, and fido care of rogers and hope for the best at this point in time?

Just a quick update after doing more research. It looks to me like the R9 will stick with me for 6 years unless I can get fido to remove it.

Since I also have had a Rogers Wireless account since 2003 I have drafted a letter to the Rogers office of the president asking him for mercy in exchange for my continued patronage. We'll see how it goes.

Credit Cleanup for nice credit cards

Postby nitehawk » Sat Apr 09, 2011 11:52:33 PM

Quick introduction:

I want some nice credit/charge cards...

I'm virtually debt free (one monthly payment remaining on a loan with RBC), single, making over 70k, and do a lot of business travel.

I have one credit card, mbna that I got in 2004, with a limit of 12k. I allowed it to carry a high balance for some time, paid it off last summer but again let it get high from october till march. It's now paid off. So it's my understanding that if I clear the bill every month for the next 3 months my utilization on this account will drop to 0 with the bureaus.

Because I travel so often I need a credit card with a reasonable limit; which I have. But now I want to get a cibc Aerogold infinite (60k min income) or vanilla aerogold (35k min).

Then ideally make sure I make my payments on time on all credit accounts for the obligatory 3 year period then look at a gold or platinum amex.

Back in april 2009 i defaulted on my fido bill (~4k), and didnt pay till august 2009 when i cleared the balance with NCO, without settling and made an agreement that they wouldn't ever report my interaction with them to the bureaus.

So I pulled my report on equifax a few months back, and noticed:

-Fido was showing as an active R9 for 4k or whatever it was.

-one late payment on my RBC loan around the same period (30-60)

-one or two late mbna payments (30-60).

-one collection agency shows up for 1 month for a photo radar ($100) i picked up in a rental car. The rental agency sent a letter stating they would charge my cc, but they never did, it went straight to collections, so I'm kinda peeved about that one. is there anyway to get this removed as I don't feel it should have ever gone to collections.

I don't know how that R9 works, but since i paid it almost 2 years ago should it still be showing as active? Is this an error? will it go away after 3 years or stay for 6? I have a feeling this R9 is by far the worst thing showing on my report.

Should I pay Canada Credit Fix $500 to use their free credit repair service? this seems steep to me as I dont owe any debts that I need settled etc. I would gladly pay 100-200.

If CIBC is still offering secured aerogolds I suppose i could go that route and make sure I get 3 years of perfect payments behind me then apply for the amex. But i'd prefer to just qualify through traditional methods.

Thanks for any help!
