Hey Carrie Zulack,
There are no laws that say you have to deal with a collection agency.

There are contract obligations that the court will respect. I am interested to know where a collection agency gets the authorization to sue you in court.

The collection agency must have received an assignment of the debt from the creditor, of which you must have had to agreed to with the original contract.

If there is no proper assignment of debt, the collection agency has no power to take you to court. The contract wasn't signed with them, and you don't owe them any money.

For all it's worth, you should check your contract to see where you authorized assignment of debt to a third party collection agency, upon default of the debt.

Who was the debt with?

Sorry to hear that you lost your furniture. We're trying to help people stick handle a little better with collection agencies.

I found this link for: Assignment of Debt - BC Provincial Government look for where it talks about assignment with collectors.

No law saying I gotta deal with a collection agency? You must be joking. What about when the company gets the collection agency to sue me in court and the sheriff comes and takes away the furniture?

No law dealing with collection agencies

No law dealing with collection agencies

There is no law that says you ever have to have any dealings with any collection agents or collection agencies.

I challenge anyone to find any law that regulates a person having to deal with a collection agency. There just aren't any.

? no law dealing with collection agencies

If anybody finds any law that says that a canadian has to deal with a collection agent or collection agency, could you please post the link here!!

The attitudes of people who think they know the law, but don't, and then try to tell it to other people. They say, "there must be a law that people must deal with collection agencies."

Let's put that myth to rest, right here, right now.!
