Future shop's creditor can remove those inquiries for you... you would have to write them etc to have them removed..

Equifax can remove them as well, however, they prefer that the creditor does it..

Just tell the future shop creditor that you authorized one inquiry but not five of them... you can complain to Federal Privacy Commission etc...

Probaby a nice phone call the Future Shop's credit company will do the trick.

I had been checking back here every day and didn't notice your reply.

I kept scrolling to the bottom of the page and saw that my original post was the last one. Just now I realized that this forum reads up instead of down.

In my original post I meant to say that the mortgage broker is NOT supposed to show me my credit score (I mis-typed the word "not" - I said that he is NOW supposed to show me). I'm hoping that's what you're talking about when you say I'm misquoting my mortgage broker. The 798 fico score was about what I expected - I had been working on my credit score for a few years ("7 steps to 720").

The last sentence of your first paragraph is what I think happened, 4-5 inquires within 24 hours, my score drops, now they want a large deposit.

Luckily Equifax has an office about an hour from me. I'll drop in and get their advise. If I find out anything useful I'll post it here for ppl who find this thread in the future.

A guy I know who writes scorecards that disagrees with you. I'm sure you're misquoting the mortgage broker too. The algorithms are designed to ferret out stuff like that. And even if they didn't your FICO score might only drop by a few points for 12 months. Far more likely, it wouldn;t drop at all as penalties are triggered only after a certain threshold of inquiries is reached within a certain time frame.

If you're still concerned, I'm sure the Future Shop Credit Dept. supervisor would be willing to make the appropriate phone call(s). Many vendors purchase customized credit scoring software from FICO and others. When their decision engines see 5 inquiries on the same day, the stupid programs have a hissy fit and think someone is going from branch to branch desperately seeking credit.

Future Shop screwed my credit rating!!!!!

Postby StephanieD » Thu Dec 16, 2010 06:10:09 PM

I was trying to buy a blackberry and get set up with a plan at FutureShop.

For some reason their computer kept messing up and we had to start over with my application 4 or 5 times.

Suddenly it wants a LARGE security deposit before we can proceed.

Apparently it was checking my credit rating every time they re-tried, and of course my score was falling exponentially every time.

I had a score of 798 before this started (I know this because I was talking to a mortgage broker in the spring and he showed me the score (I know he's now supposed to)).

I was going to get a car loan in the new year and this is going to screw me up, isn't it.

So...

How do I get the bogus credit checks off my history??
