a T.C.R. Intimidation tactic

Postby Ottawa_Chap » Sat Sep 20, 2008 04:10:48 PM

Found the following included in a recent TCR mailing. Sorta sounds like I should keep a baseball bat by the door. (LOL!).

"If this balance is not received within 10 days, we are proceeding with further collection activity at your place of residence"

Have my doubts whether there's any truth to the above. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait a few days before I can verifty if they've fired me off a threat of the sort before. Thinking yes, but I can't say for certain.

Infuriating one C/A at a time..

ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH COLLECTION AGENCIES.
Collection agencies will never be sympathetic to you. They would lose money if they were sympathetic. Reading the posts on this site will help you deal with collection agencies.

The best thing to realize is that:
1) There are NO laws that say you must deal with a collection agency
2) Collection agencies have laws that they must work within while collecting.

COLLECTION AGENTS/AGENCIES MUST BE LICENSED.. ASK FOR PROOF THAT THEY'RE LICENSED
The first thing to do is ask for proof that the collection agent / agency has a license to collect in your province. If they don't provide proof that they are licensed, then you don't have to talk to them.. This little idea will help you take immediate control over the phone call with the collection agent.

In some cases we have found that collection agents weren't even licensed with the province and yet they were calling and being rude. They were clearly breaking the law.

NEXT: If you don't know who the collection agent is, you need to ask for proof of what you owe. You can't talk to them until they give you proof of the break down of the money that you allegedly owe. Otherwise, why would you give money to strangers over the phone. They could be scam artists asking for money.

These are some things you can do to buy a little breathing room while you collect your thoughts and develop a strategy for paying back your bills.

It's important to note that we believe people should pay for bills that they agreed to etc. We don't think that people need to get stressed out when a collection agency calls. We believe that people should take a the offense when dealing with collection agencies in Canada.

Let us know how these tips help you.

Well, today I called the person who was in charge hoping that my complaint would go fine. But, it didn't. She was worse than that guy I talked to. she was so rude. I've been upset from it all afternoon. She told me that I'm 32 years old and that she didn't know why I was balling over the phone, so I hung up on her before I said anything else. Did she have the right to do this. PLEASE, PLEASE I need someone's help on this. There is more from this phone call that I really don't want to get into. It'll just make me upset again. Am I over reacting about this.

Sorry it wasn't TCR. It was the credit bureau. So, if everyone has any advise, please give me some. Thanks.

Sorry. I was mistaken. The collection agency wasn't TCR. Just wanted everyone to know. It was the credit bureau.

Collection Agencies

Postby michie_821 » Wed Oct 25, 2006 12:00:00 AM

Today I got a phone call from TCR. This agent told me that I had a court date n why I didn't show up. I was like I didn't recieve anything in the mail, he said well we sent you 2 letters in the mail and you didn't respond or showed up for your court date. So, I told him if I knew when the court date was and where it was, I would have went.
Well, about an hour went by and I called him back asking if he could tell me where the court was. Well, he couldn't give the imformation. He told me he didn'y have it. So, can someone tell me if this is right. I know i should be paying but, for this to happen is wrong.
