The expiration date is from the date of delinquincy... which, apparently, is in 1999. There is nothing they can legally do to you to force you to pay the bill. Keep demanding the proof... harass them if it suits you to do so.

If it's at the bureau, dispute it... and consider small claims court if necessary.

Yup there is a sol. What province are you from? The SOL varies from province to province. If the debt is from 1990 it is irrelevant. They cannot contact you again until they have provided the verification you asked for.

I am going through the exact same thing except my bill is apparantly from 2002. I told them impossible because I haven't been with Bell since the late 1990's. Is there a statute of limitations on collection agencies? I too asked for a copy of the bill which they could not provide--he told me the account was placed in collections in 2002 to which I replied I don't think that Bell Canada would wait for a minimum of 3 yrs before putting it there! If there is an expiration date for the claim is it from the supposed original invoice or when it was place in collection? Any information would be most helpful--thanks

Hi there

My parents received several calls from this agency
They only left a recorded message to call them

My parents never called them as they thought it was just someone selling them something
Then one day they spoke to a man that stated he was looking for me and he gave them a file number and phone number to call

I called them and they stated that I have an outstanding debt with Bell Canada
This was from over 2 years ago

I asked them for the bill which states this and the Agency stated they only had the amount owing, no print out of calls etc

I told the Agency I would call Bell Canada to see if this was indeed true
The gentleman from the Agency stated that it would not do any good, as I would be on hold with Bell forever etc etc
I asked him to send my an actual statement from HIS company so that I may have something in writing and also check his company out to make sure he was legit
He told me that he would do this, but it would be faster for me to just pay it off now by Credit Card
I told him 'forget it' and to send me out the bill
He agreed
I spoke with him on Thursday and he said he would call me by Wednesday to see if I had received it
(He called on Tuesday leaving a message)

I told him I would anyway

I called Bell Canada and they stated my old phone number was being used by another person, but that the number I had, had an outstanding balance of $229.80
I asked them for a bill to send me so that I may verify this and Bell stated they had nothing and that the outstanding debt was SOLD to this Agency

The Agency told me I owed $237.62, not the $229.80 Bell
Canada had stated

My questions:

I am wondering how many times can a credit company call and badger you in a week?

Can a credit company collect an outstanding debt after over 2 years?

They wanted a credit card, I said no, they suggested paying on line through my bank, I said no, but would send a money order or cheque, IF I indeed owed them?

What are my rights?

I also told them that my rent, bills and utilities NOW are priority and if I owed them, would pay after 2 weeks....

Sorry for the length of this .........
Any help would be much appreciated:)
