I thought it was 25 and not 10 years when I took Auto Insurance and Bill 203. Maybe they've changed it. Whatever.
There's nothing much you can do about the Natale Law Offices of the world. They will always demand their pound of flesh. When acts of God, lunatics, terrorists, disability and illness strike, there's often not much we can do if we don't have adequate insurance coverage or benevolent family and friends. Believe me, such situations happen to a lot of people. (It does make me angry though when I see people on this forum cozying up to them.)
It doesn't sound matters are going to get resolved in time to save you from a bunch of R9's on your credit reports. You could phone up all your creditors and explain what happened, if you haven't already done so. But they won't care; they'll just refer you back to the collection agencies. Ditto for any government agency. As long as they've got their own pension plans and money coming in they won't care. Still, if they know what's happened, at least they likely will see there's no point in suing you. And when the award(s) come in, you probably won't need credit for quite some time.
I don't know when you defaulted on your bills, but they only have 2 years from the date of default in Ontario to sue you - unless it's a student loan. That means if it's been a while since you paid anyone, if they haven't sued you by now, they probably never will. Most or all of them will have searched your assets before calling. Nevertheless, they might bug you over the phone for years.
You could change your phone number; but the main thing is you want to be aware if anyone launches a Small Claims Court action so you don't get victimized by a default judgment which will eat into any future award.
So far we're just talking about money stuff. Naturally, the existential and spirtual dilemmas created far exceed the financial, but that's for another forum.
