yeah, sorry that was a typo, i ment how long untill i should be able to apply for an UNsecured card through a bank.

so are you confirming that its probable that capital one didnt report to the credit bureaus for you either?

this seems like fraud to me

A good credit rating isn't necessary to apply for a secured credit card through banks. You may, however, need it for an unsecured one. I got a secured Visa with CIBC. I actually wanted an unsecured one, but was told it won't be approved because at that time I didn't have a credit history. But I think they were not reporting it because when TD checked my credit nothing showed up back then and I had been paying the balance in full always on time for about 9 or 10 months.

Couple of questions

Postby hellodestiny » Sat Jul 24, 2010 01:12:51 PM

hello, new user here.

i recently recieved my capitalone secured card with a 300 limit, in which i had to send them 300 dollars.

i have zero credit on file (not bad, just none)

recently i have read a few things and also heard from word of mouth, that there is no actual guaruntee that capital one will report your payments each month to the credit bureau, partially because they make so much off interest etc that they dont want you to actually get good credit quickly and get a unsecured card elsewhere with good rates. i have heard from 2 different people that they checked there credit profiles and saw almost a year after first use that capitalone didnt report anything.
sure i know they have helped a ton of people with no/bad credit, but what im asking is, do they actually guearuntee to report each and every month? i wish i asked this before i got the card.

also, my second question is, assuming they will report monthly and i continue to use it several times a month (i pay it back the day i use it via online banking), how long will it generally take to have good credit and be able to apply for secured credit through banks?

thanks
